The Secret of Customer Loyalty is Customer Experience

Driving  loyalty by managing positive customer experience. As I remembered Walt Disney said: “Do what you do so well that [customers] want to see it again and bring their friends.” That insight makes an explicit connection between customer experience and loyalty. If customer don't satisfy with a fulfilling shop experience in the store or online that cause many complain comments  are posted in the social networking site. This result downgrade customer loyalty program, and also destroy the company brand.

If company looking for higher margins, more brand loyalty and a starting point to introduce innovation customer loyalty programs into your organization, company should effort to offer better-quality service in order to enhance customer loyalty programs because it gives you an unfair competitive advantage.

Hence I found this YouTube video to clearer explain the importance of customer experience how to impact the customer loyalty programs.

Reward points in order to contribution to the charity

In the recently, many companies with loyalty program association with social responsibility, is to let their loyalty customer donate their earning points to charities or a community groups.  These actions further improve the level of the customer loyalty programs. It is not only making their programs attractive customers but also building the brand image.

With the Canadian Tire 'Money' Advantage program, Canadian Tire upgraded rewarding programs. If you make a purchase using Canadian tire program credit cards at Canadian Tire stores and they will donate $2 or if you donate $1 at Canadian Tire stores, then Canadian Tire will make it $3 to support the Canadian tire Jumpstart (Canadian tire Jumpstart gives kids a sporting chance) .  The customers also have an option to donate Canadian Tire points towards charity or special cause in community.

Another large loyalty program is Aeroplan who use your miles to make a difference. Aeroplan set up a special Aeroplan Miles account for making charity. As of today there are 383,644,079 miles donated. Also basing on the CTV news reports on Apr,2014 that Air Canada have donated 500,000 Aeroplan points to the Chai Lifeline Canada charity.

Overall, if you want to make the certain value for your earning points, go to the loyalty programs of charities and donate your points so that help more and more people.

Customer Loyalty Program in Shanghai, China

Customer loyalty programs are growing fast in China. During my last visit to Shanghai, I had some positive experiences I would like to share.
With more and more smartphone users developed in China, lots of retailers, merchants and restaurants are mobilizing their loyalty programs. When I went to a nail salon to get my manicure done, the beautician introduced their mobile app. It was mainly out of curiosity when I first downloaded that app. Then I was surprised that how interesting and informative this app is.  It develops a user-friendly and interactive interface with the customers. It not only shows some fabulous nail art designs they have created, also allows users to try out real-life nail polish colors, patterns, and rings on their own phones. I can use this app to book/cancel an appointment and get reminders for my upcoming appointment. Moreover, I can easily track and redeem the points I’ve collected during my past visits to the salon.

Nowadays, business owners in China are digitizing loyalty programs and client promotions and marketing in this manner because they know a basic but powerful strategy: repeat customers are rewarded and business increase sales.

Mobile-pocket loyalty cards

With the development of technology, more and more people have the smartphones.  Meanwhile, some business companies  consider  to utilized smartphone technologies to keep close with customer and get long-term loyalty relationship in order to digitizing and mobilizing their loyalty systems.  They use the technology to offer a custom mobile app and build loyalty customer programs instead the traditional punch cards. It is convenience since the customers will no longer worry about losing or misplacing their stamps on the filed punch cards, so don’t affect their loyalty programs because customer will always carry their smartphones so that running a custom business mobile application to continue their loyalty program.

In my wallet, I have many loyalty cards for retailer and restaurants, also including some credit card with loyalty programs, so for me use electronic loyalty cards are pretty convenience, I just have to bring one smartphone that contained all of available loyalty cards.  Now, I had an electronic loyalty card of Starbucks, after downloaded the Starbucks mobile app from the App store, you can sign in and to access the Starbucks features, I can earn stars or virtual stamps for each product purchase at Starbucks and a set number of stars received can be used to redeem a free product or beverage.
Saving the money with the new technology, I think in the future mobile loyalty cards will become the mainstream.

Best Friends – Saving money with Loyalty cards/programs

Customer loyalty programs signified you get some cards from the retailer when you purchases or others way so that you could be awarded with a free sample or a car wash or some discounts.

I am interesting in collecting loyalty cards in order to save money, such as giving me some special offers, getting the gift card towards the future purchases and getting their member magazines and coupons etc.  On the retailer side that going through the issuance of loyalty cards/programs, a lot of benefits could be obtained, such as: 1) to build customers’ loyalty and get more profits from customers; 2) to differentiate business from competitor and provide incentives customer to continue purchasing and 3) to identify the best customers, and then could create strong relationship with them.

I learned through my search on the websites that loyalty cards/programs are very popular in Canada. A Canadian holds an average of 6.4 loyalty cards, and 92% Canadian customers registered at least one loyalty program. There are some different loyalty programs that you are able to get enrolled based upon your favorites and habits. Below are common loyalty programs that most of retailer offers.

Points: If you purchase something you earn some points. When reaching certain points you can use these points to get the free gift or use points towards future purchases. For example:  Shoppers Drug Mart loyalty card allows you to spend 22,000 points that reward $30 off on your future purchase; Bloomingdale's loyalty card that you can use 5,000 points to receive a $25 Bloomingdale’s gift card; Neiman Marcus loyalty card offers everything you’d expect from a high-end retailer’s loyalty program. Member can earn points for money spent in the store and online, and for every 10,000 points earned, you receive a $100 gift card.

Reward Dollars: every dollar your spend, then you earn a percentage back on their card. For example, MBNA SMART credit card. It awards up to 5% cash back on all of eligible gas and grocery purchases for the first 6 months; and up to 2% cash back on eligible gas and grocery purchases as well as up to 1% cash back on all of other eligible purchases thereafter. Once the cash back totals at least $50 at the end of a monthly billing cycle, a cheque will be mailed to you.

We'll discuss more of  customer loyalty programs next
